The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) was proud to continue its support of the NextGen Unite Cup, with the fourth annual event bringing together an impressive showcase of football talent, culture and community at Whitten Oval on Saturday 17 October.
Delivered by NextGen Unite (NGU) in collaboration with the Western Bulldogs and Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, the event once again highlighted the power of Australian football to connect communities, celebrate cultural identity and provide opportunities for emerging talent.
The Eastside Eagles and Westside Warriors faced off across Under 19 and Senior Men’s matches, with both contests showcasing outstanding athleticism and football ability. Featuring a number of VFL-listed players, the matches provided an exciting display of the talent emerging from Victoria’s South Sudanese and African communities.
Emmanuel Ajang produced a dominant performance for the Westside Warriors, earning best afield honours with 26 disposals, 10 clearances and an impressive 138 ranking points.
In the Under 19 contest, Goy Jiath was recognised as best afield for the Eastside Eagles, collecting 29 disposals and 151 ranking points in a standout display.
VAFA stats partner, Premier Data, supported the event by providing player statistics, adding another professional element to the showcase and helping recognise the performances of the participating athletes.
The occasion attracted several prominent football leaders, including AFL CEO Andrew Dillon, AFL National Community Manager Rob Auld and VAFA CEO Jason Reddick, reflecting the growing significance of the event within the football community.

As part of its ongoing partnership, the VAFA proudly sponsored the event through the provision of a full complement of umpires, ensuring both matches were professionally officiated and reinforcing the Association’s commitment to supporting meaningful community football initiatives.
Established in 2021, NextGen Unite is dedicated to empowering young South Sudanese Australians through its four strategic pillars of Culture, Education, Employment and Talent. The annual Cup continues to provide an important platform for young people to showcase their abilities, strengthen community connections and pursue opportunities both on and off the football field.
The VAFA congratulates NextGen Unite, the Western Bulldogs and everyone involved in delivering another successful event.
The VAFA is proud of its ongoing relationship with NextGen Unite and looks forward to continuing its support of an initiative that celebrates diversity, develops emerging talent and demonstrates the positive impact of football in bringing communities together.
