NOBS overrun Friars with second half heroics, Ogs claim throne

Brunswick NOBSPC solidified their place in Division 1 for the 2017 season with an exceptional 51-point victory against Whitefriars. Needing a win to stay up, NOBS were relentless after falling to a 16-point half time deficit, booting 12 goals to three which included six unanswered in the final term. Kyle Adams (six) and Gerard Bence (four) were unstoppable up forward, while Adam Oakley starred in a BOG display for NOBS. Michael Nitas snagged three for the Friars and finished his season with 40.

Old Geelong realised their goal of finishing atop the Division 1 ladder when they defeated PEGS by 78 points at Como Park. With just one point separating the sides at the first break, OGs piled on six unanswered goals in the second term and never looked back. Aaron Bird and William Sloss starred for OGs, while Trent Skurrie kicked three goals for the Bombers, who remain in third spot on the ladder.

Six unanswered goals in the final term has helped Old Mentonians to a stunning 17-point come-from-behind victory against Therry Penola at John Pascoe Reserve. Trailing by 23 at three quarter time, the Panthers nailed 6.4 while keeping the Lions scoreless. Kyle Conlon kicked three in a BOG display for the Panthers, while Jarrod Bannister top-scored with four and took his season tally to 75 from 16 outings. Despite the win, the Panthers fall to second spot after OGs climbed above them with a healthy victory over PEGS.

Old Paradians could have done no more to avoid relegation as they defeated Ivanhoe by 19 points in a spirited display at Garvey Oval. Robert Amerena and Alex Asdagi were outstanding for the Raiders as their two best players, while Mitch Lovell backed up his 10 from last week with another three for the Hoes. They end their season in sixth position on the ladder and the Raiders in ninth. If not for NOBS’ victory over the Friars, the Raiders would have stayed in Division 1 for another year.

Prahran Assumption finished their year on a high, defeating St Mary’s Salesian by 15 points at Ferndale Park. John Robbins kicked four goals for the second consecutive week for the Two Blues, alongside Josh Hogarth and Alexander Simpson who snagged three each. The Saints were unable to pinch fourth spot on the ladder, but will be buoyed by the standout performances from Jack Elliston and Mitchell Woods who were dominant.
