OLD BRIGHTON AND KEW BREAK DROUGHTS

By VAFA · September 15, 2013
OLD BRIGHTON AND KEW BREAK DROUGHTS

Old Brighton broke a 16 year wait for a senior premiership as they return to Premier Section football with a Premier B flag to their name after holding off Old Trinity by 8 points at Sportscover Arena.
Old Brighton had created a buffer at three quarter time to defend as Old Trinity had the breeze in the final quarter but the Tonners managed a couple of early goals to extend their break to 19 points. Late Old Trinity goals got them to within 8 points but they ran out of legs and out of time in the Premier B Grand Final.
In the Division 3 Grand Final Kew ended a 34 year wait for a senior flag when they beat Elsternwick by 35 points at Ted Ajani Reserve. Andrew Brazzale kicked five goals with the Bears leading at every change.
In the U19 Premier Grand Final, six goals from Hoy helped St Bedes/Mentone Tigers defeat Old Xaverians by 6 points in a thriller at Trevor Barker Oval.
Other premiers include Fitzroy who won U19 Section 2, Whitefriars who won U19 Section 3 and Kew who won the U18 competition.
The Premier Grand Final between Old Xaverians and St Bedes/Mentone Tigers is next week at Sportscover Arena. Gates open at 8.30 with 3 Grand Finals to be decided on the day.
Don’t forget you can watch the Premier B Grand Final on replay on Channel 31 This Tuesday night from 10pm.
