PREMIER 2014 FIXTURE PREVIEW

By VAFA · November 25, 2013
PREMIER 2014 FIXTURE PREVIEW

With the official release of the 2014 Premier Section fixture to take place ahead of next Monday’s VAFA Annual General Meeting, the VAFA Media team have been given a sneak peek at the Premier fixture for the 2014 season. We take a look at some of the highlights below.
The season will commence on Saturday 12th April with each match containing a highlight for opening day. De La Salle will commence their year at home to Old Scotch with both teams keen to atone for last year’s missed opportunities this promises to be a vital clash.
Both promoted Premier B sides commence their campaigns at home, with the premiers Old Brighton to raise their flag before taking on Collegians at Brighton Beach Oval and Old Trinity to host St Bernard’s at Daley Oval.
University Blacks will hopefully be unveiling the new pavvy at a home match against last season’s premiers Old Xaverians in what shapes as a tantalising Round 1 match up.
The Premier runners-up, St Bedes/Mentone Tigers will hope history doesn’t repeat when they play Beaumaris on opening day in a local derby. This time the Tigers will be at home to the Sharks.
Looking ahead in the fixture to the ANZAC Day weekend; Old Scotch will hope to host St Bedes/Mentone Tigers on ANZAC Day – which falls on the Friday – and pending approval from the RSL and AFL Victoria will launch Round 2.
Continuing a look at Round 2 and Old Xaverians will host Old Trinity at Sportscover Arena due to the unavailability of Toorak Park, meaning the raising of the flag at Toorak Park will have to wait until Round 4 against Collegians on 10th May.
Beaumaris will play their first home game of the year against De La Salle.
Collegians will host University Blacks and St Bernard’s will host Old Brighton ensuring all Premier Section clubs will play a home fixture in the opening two rounds of the season.
The Tigers will have to wait until Round 9 for another crack at Old Xaverians, with the Premier Grand Final rematch to take place at Brindisi St. The Premier B Grand Final re-match will be in Round 8 when Old Brighton host Old Trinity at Brighton Beach Oval.
Byes are to take place after Round 1 (for Easter), after Round 7 (for Queen’s Birthday – and Representative Football for U23s) and after Round 11 (for the mid year break and representative matches).
Tomorrow check out our sneak peek of the Premier B 2014 fixture.
