The VAFA take on the EFL on 29 March at Carlton’s Visy Park in the AFL Victoria Metropolitan Championships. The media build up to the match is expected to gain more attention in the coming weeks and to get the ball rolling the two competitions got together to record a special preview podcast ahead of the match.
Andrew Leonard made his way out to enemy territory to sit down with EFL Media Manager Ben Waterworth to talk about the two squads. They also spoke with both coaches, Simon Lethlean (VAFA) and Daniel Donati (EFL) to hear how they are preparing the players, and Ben and Andrew took a look at who might be some of the key players in the match.
The EFL commenced training last week and the VAFA will commence training next week and both squads and competitions are equally excited about the prospect of a third match in five years.
Whilst the VAFA have won both previous encounters, this match takes on an increased significance due to it being part of a re-launched AFL Victoria Metropolitan Championships. The winner of the match on 29th March will hold the number 1 ranking of metropolitan Melbourne whilst the vanquished will be relegated to the level below.
The build up to the match continues on SEN 1116 this Sunday, 9 March at 3pm, when Andrew Leonard will join Brett Phillips and Ben Charles on The Local Locker Room to talk about the top 10 VAFA players of the past 15 years.
With both squads due to be trimmed down over the coming weeks, keep checking back for more information about the match at vafa.com.au.
