The VAFA congratulates Collegians midfielder Luke McCleary who has been named the Round 3 Rising Star following his BOG performance in his side’s 29-point win over Old Carey last weekend. Luke had 19 disposals, five marks and was awarded the Anzac Medallion for his performance.
What the club said:
“Luke left Wesley at the end of 2016 and played U19’s in 2017. In 2018, Luke had a taste of senior football while playing in the development team for most of the year and this year Luke has so far cemented his place in our senior side.
When moving through the midfield, his lethal right foot, strong hips and laconic movement often remind us of a young Darren Jarman during his Hawthorn days. Luke’s agility on the field often makes the difficult look very easy. He’s got a deadly right foot and his mature body make him very difficult to tackle in heavy traffic and around stoppages.
Luke was part of the Collegians 2017 U19 premiership team and also won the U19 Best & Fairest that same year, and more recently, Luke was the winner of the ANZAC medal for the best player on the ground.”
