A VAFA side will take on an Australian GAA side in International Rules this Sunday at Sandringham’s Trvor Barker Oval as the curtain raiser to the VFL v All-Ireland match.
The All-Ireland team are in Melbourne to prepare for their International Rules Test against the All Australian team to be played in Perth on 22 November.
The VAFA was invited to participate in the day given our recent history of sending a touring team to Ireland biennially. Given this history the VAFA will also have three players playing in the combined VFL side that will play in the match against the All-Ireland side. Tom Paule (Old Melburnians), Ben Smithwick (Old Carey) and Bede Mahon (University Blacks) will all reacquaint themselves with the Irish having all played against them in Ireland last year.
The VAFA versus the GAA match will commence at 11.45am with entry free to watch both matches.
The VAFA side will be coached by Brett Voss and the squad is listed below. A training session was held at Sportscover Arena on Monday and another session will be held at Sportscover Arena on Wednesday.
