Anthony Simpson & Brendan Corcoran entered VAFA immortality over the weekend when they umpired their 550th games in Division 2 (Aquinas vs Bulleen-Temp) and Division 3 (Albert Park vs Richmond Central), respectively.
Brendan began umpiring in 1992 and he has run the boundary in Premier and Premier B GF’s, two rep games and he is a Life Member of the VAFAUA.
“I enjoy the challenge of umpiring and the running aspect of the sport and I recommend the VAFA to others as it is a safe place to umpire. I plan to continue umpiring indefinitely and hope to hit 600 career games.”
As for Anthony, he started with the VAFAUA in 1993 and his career highlights include standing the goals in two Premier C grand finals. Asked what keep shim umpiring, Anthony said “my dad Graham umpired with me in my first game, my brother Peter, nephew Matthew, sons Michael and Joshua and cousin Shannon all umpired with me at some point”.
