The Victorian Amateur Football Association extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of University Blues stalwart, Tony McInerney, who recently passed away.

Tony joined Uni Blues in 1995 after a successful playing career with St Pat’s Ballarat Old Boys in the 1960s. He spent five years as President, nine years as Vice-President, 10 years as Senior Team Manager and 10 years as Canteen Operations Manager.

During his first tenure as Club President, Tony implemented the tradition of Thursday evening meals and established both the Uni Blues Ball fundraising event and Uni Blues past players alumni network, where past Blues players mentor current players and assist with career advice and guidance.

In 2010, Tony’s second stint as President proved as fruitful as the first as he worked with both the Melbourne University Football Club and Melbourne University Sports Organisation to oversee the planning, funding and eventual implementation of the new Pavilion at University Oval.

In 2006 Melbourne University Football Club awarded Tony Life Membership in recognition of his contribution to Uni Blues and a VAFA Certificate of Merit in 2016.
