WOODHEAD APPOINTED AS VAFA HEAD OF UMPIRING

The VAFA are delighted to announce the appointment of Brian Woodhead as Head of Umpiring with the VAFA commencing on the 27th January 2015.
Brian brings many facets to this important and challenging role. Brian’s vast experience in both umpiring on field and umpire coaching, plus his business acumen gives him the key tools to take on this position with the verve and enthusiasm required. 
General Manager of Football and Umpiring, Brian Goodman said, “With a number of key focuses, Brian’s initial challenge will be to embark on raising VAFA umpire numbers and providing an improvement in our umpire retention for the benefit of our clubs.”
Brian has experience at the highest level, having umpired at AFL/VFL level in the late 80’s before he joined the VAFA as Senior Umpires coach in 1989.
Brian then moved to Sydney with Sportscover and was the AFL Umpires Observer for all Sydney home games. 
Returning to Melbourne in 2002 Brian assisted in the development of junior development squads in VAFA Umpiring whilst continuing an international career with Sportscover.
Brian holds Life Membership with both the AFL Umpires Association as well as the VAFA Umpires Association.
