St Mary’s Women’s making Hay while the sun shines

By Joe Pignataro · November 13, 2022
St Mary’s Women’s making Hay while the sun shines

St Mary’s Salesian AFC are very excited to announce the appointment of Jules Hay as the new coach of our Women’s Seniors team for the 2023 season.

Jules has a wealth of football coaching experience spanning over 8 years. Most recently, Jules was the Head Coach of the Women’s team at Blackburn Football Club and prior to that an Assistant Coach with Williamstown’s VFLW team. Before those appointments, Jules assisted Collingwood’s VFL team and was a representative coach as well as a junior coach.

Jules has also worked with the AFL as a junior coaching ambassador, is a former director and is a co-founder of the Women’s Coaching Association (WCA), and is a frequent guest speaker on panels, and regularly appears in the media, on topics related to women in sport.

Jules is a PE teacher by trade, having taught for the past 20 years in a range of settings, and she is currently the Director of Sport at Siena College. Jules has completed a masters level thesis on women in coaching and a year of a PhD, exploring gendered barriers, challenges and opportunities within sport for women.

As is evidenced by her experiences, Jules is extremely passionate about women’s football and creating an inclusive, fun culture for women to thrive and grow within community sport.

Jules is exactly what the club has been looking for and will be a fantastic addition to the Club women’s program. St Mary’s Salesian are excited to see what the Women’s program can achieve under Jules’ leadership in 2023 and beyond!

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the team at St Mary’s Salesian for the upcoming season and beyond! What attracted me to the club was a thriving women’s program, supported by a gender diverse committee and a female president.” Hay told St Mary’s media.

“My vision is to provide players with a fun, educational and inspiring program, in which women feel supported and are provided with a platform to achieve what they want to achieve out of playing football. Whether that be a pathway to higher performance in football or a social team environment where women enjoy playing footy with friends each week.”
