Beaumaris has pulled off one of the recruits of the off-season with the appointment of former West Coast Eagles champion, Guy McKenna, as their senior coach for the 2018 season.
McKenna, who was the inaugural coach of the Gold Coast Suns from 2011-2014, is a former captain of the Eagles and was a key defensive cog of their two premierships in 1992 and 1994.
Beaumaris will be looking to re-enter the VAFA’s top tier after suffering relegation on the back of three wins this year. They were crowned Premier B champions in 2016.
“The Committee of the Beaumaris Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Guy McKenna as our senior coach for the 2018 season.
Guy fills the position vacated by Adam Schneider who was recently appointed as Reserves Coach of the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
Guy comes to the club with excellent credentials. He played 267 games for the West Coast Eagles, is a two-time AFL premiership player, four-time All Australian, AFL Hall of Fame inductee and West Coast Eagles Captain 1999-2000.
He coached Claremont in the WAFL, assistant coach at the Eagles and Collingwood, senior coach with the Gold Coast Suns and more recently a line coach at Essendon.
The selection panel was headed by Vice President Terry Lucas who interviewed an outstanding field of candidates.
Guy says he is excited to be involved with a club like Beaumaris which has such a strong junior program.
He has already had some involvement with a number of the Beaumaris juniors through Sandringham Dragons and looking forward to their progression into senior ranks.
Having moved into the area, he is keen to become involved in the Beaumaris community.”
