SATURDAY SKINNY

SATURDAY SKINNY

Goalsneaks reasserted themselves big time this afternoon as light winds and dry skies made for some big scores and some big margins too. There were, however, some close ones too and another tie.

In Premier, Nick Sautner booted eleven, with nine coming before the long break, as top side Collegians smashed Old Trinity. Nick Ries proved a good option too with six in the Lions won by 106 points at the Trott. Old Haileybury fell to Uni Blues in the end courtesy of a strong final term from the Varsity. Jarrod Reid was BOG for Old Carey and Paul Fiorenza kicked five in the Panthers’ win over DLS. Old Melburnians won at the Junction over ancient rival Old Scotch. OMs, still in ninth, are now just half a game behind Old Trinity.

In Premier B, Tim Edwards booted nine as Oakleigh upset Old Ivanhoe at Chelsworth Park. Owen Weatherley got five in Brown, but the Krushers finished strongly to get the points. Andrew Merrington kicked six and Brendon Geoge five in a losing Snow Dogs side that lowered its colours to St Kevin’s in a shootout. Al Evans kicked five to give Marcellin a chance against Caulfield, but the Fields finished stronger, Brett Sinclair snagging five. Hampton Rovers hung with Old Brighton for three quarters but the Tonners got the points. Under the spires, Uni Blacks fell to Beaumaris in a close one. Beauy, Blacks, Old Ivanhoe and Oakleigh are all even and battling for fourth spot.

In Premier C, David Fayman kicked ten and Jake Lew six as AJAX whacked the Unicorns, spoiling Ewen Thompson’s 200. Mazenod beat Old Camberwell, while Monash Blues beat Ormond. Will Pickering kicked eight as Fitzroy upset Rupertswood, while Werribee Districts got six from Aaron Taylor as they mowed down Old Essendon, which had begun in a hurry.

In Division 1, Peninsula continued winning by taking Parkdale Vultures at Gerry Green. The Pirates got six from James Coghlan in a BOG effort and came from behind to win. League leader Banyule got twin sixes from Adam Barclay and Hayden Dillon in their shellacking of Bulleen Temp.Old Mentonians tied with Williamstown CYMS in a shock result.Carl “New Riders of the Purple” Sage got five for Paradians, who fell to the Friars. Ryan McEvoy booted five for the Oggers, who were tipped out by NOBSPC.

Division 2 leader Glen Eira remained unbeaten, torching contender La Trobe Uni. Pasquale Saccuzzo kicked six for the Eirans, while Jack “Happy” McMeel kicked five for the Trobers. Therry got four on debut from Corey McKernan as they bested the Animals. Liam Mara kicked six and Gary Roberts five as St John’s punished Old Westbourne, while Aquinas beat relegation zone rival St Mary’s Salesian. Eltham was never troubled by South Melbourne Districts.

UHS-VU is back on track in Div 3 after beating the Bankers. The winners got six from Rhys Kirk. Monash Gryphons just fell short against the unbeaten Four Blues, with early inaccuracy costing them dearly. The Cidermen got six from Shane Roberts but Dan Lauletta slotted ten for Hawthorn, which won the day. Paul Edwards kicked six but the House lost to Ivanhoe in a thriller. Cam Britt nailed seven as Yarra Valley stopped a hot Elsternwick, while West Brunswick bested Kew.

In Div 4, Ben Spencer’s five helped SFX back to the winners’ list at the expense of the Cobras. Chris Traeger kicked six as the Stationmasters beat North Brunswick. Mark Pozzutto kicked eight for a gallant Cookies outfit, which was edged out by Swinburne, for whom Dave Elliman kicked six. Ira Israel bagged nine as Eley Park blew away BHN in the local derby.
