VAFA PROPOSAL FOR CONTRACTED PLAYERS
Andrew Leonard
At the members meeting this week it was determined that the VAFA will make a formal proposal to AFL Victoria for a change to the way a player who is looking to retain their amateur status can be released from a contract with another club to return to their original VAFA club.
At present the release of the player back to their amateur club is entirely dependant of the good faith of the club who the player signed a contract with.
The proposal would allow a player who has a history with an amateur club to have a cooling off period once they have signed a contract with a club promising to make payments to the player.
This period of time would allow the players original amateur club time to engage with the player.
The proposal would only apply to players that are yet to play a game with the club they signed a contract with.
