WHAT A FINAL QUARTER

By VAFA · September 16, 2012

Lead changes, comebacks that made it, comebacks that fell short, Sunday had it all in a day of high drama in the VAFA.
De La Salle will be as flat as a French crepe tonight as they let a 26 point three quarter time lead slip to lose to a monster performance from Old Xaverians to go down by 14 points at Sportscover Arena. The Xavs found a gear that has been missing in the past month to pile on eight goals to one in the final term to book their ticket in next Sunday’s Grand Final against Collegians. Brett Eddy kicked six goals for De La Salle but it wasn’t enough as Brendan Goss kicked four for Xavs and Esmonde Prowse who was back in the side had a final quarter that will go down as one for the ages in the hearts and minds of Old Xaverian folklore.
North Old Boys/ St Pat’s celebrated a Division 1 Premiership triumph over Peninsula at Trevor Barker Oval by 17 points. Peninsula kept coming all day and played brilliant football in the third and final quarters but ultimately it was the start from NOBS/St Pat’s who kicked six goals to two in the opening quarter that was the difference. For Peninsula it was unfortunately their seventh Grand Final without a win since they joined the VAFA.
Bulleen Templestowe bounce straight back to Division 1 in style after securing the Division 2 Premiership by two points over Prahran Assumption. The scores were locked at 4.5.29 a piece at the long break and this looked like being a dour low scoring tussle to the end. However the game opened up in the second half and the sides went goal for goal at times with the lead changing multiple times. The Two Blues will be ruing the missed chances to score as they kicked 10.15 to have more scoring shots than Bulleen Templestowe but ultimately fell short.
In Division 3, Yarra Valley comprehensively won their Preliminary Final to against UHS-VU to book a place against Ivanhoe next Sunday at Trevor Barker Oval. Yarra Valley kicked 25 goals on the way to recording a 96 point win.
