Former premiership captain and Woodrow Medallist Quinton Gleeson will take over as Uni Blues coach for 2014 – see the club statement:
At the Presentation Evening, President Joe Sturrock proudly announced the appointment of the Blues Senior Coach for 2014 – taking the helm will be Quinton Gleeson.
Quinton is a highly-decorated former player. After joining the Blues in 2001, Quinton played 175 games. He was made Captain under then-coach Steve Carroll in 2003 and captained the Blues to the VAFA A Grade Premiership in 2004. In that year, Quinton won the Woodrow Medal for the Best & Fairest player in the VAFA. Gleeson also regularly represented the VAFA over the many seasons he played for the Blues.
This year Gleeson was the Assistant Coach of the victorious VAFA Representative side and was recently in Ireland with the VAFA touring side as the Co-Coach.
Quinton’s experience at the Blues and in the VAFA is outstanding and will place him in good stead to lead the Blues in 2014. Furthermore, his experience in the AFL, VFL and country football give him a unique insight into how a variety of clubs and competitions operate.
All at Blues are extremely pleased to have a person of the calibre of Quinton as Senior Coach and we wish him the best of luck.
