STILL ONLY ROUND FOUR SO DON’T COUNT YOUR CHICKENS

Division 1 now has a clear front-runner as Therry Penola were too strong for Williamstown CYMS in their top of the table clash. The Lions made a mockery of the blockbuster status of this match as Jarrod Bannister (8 goals) led the way in the 70 point win over the CY’s. Therry Penola are now a game and more than 100% clear of second place on top of the ladder after four rounds. 
Melbourne High School Old Boys got on the winners list in 2014 with a team lifting eight point win over the visiting Bulleen Templestowe. Considine’s six goals not enough to prevent the Bullants from going down.  
Whitefriars were too strong for Old Mentonians as they kicked away to a 40 point win. The Panthers were held goalless in the first and last quarters and fall to a record of 1-3. The Friars have leveled out at 2-2. 
Adam Sleight’s four goals for Prahran Assumption helped them to a big 59 point win over Old Geelong on their return to a re-opened Toorak Park. Both sides are 2-2 but the Two Blues are in the four on percentage. 
NOB/St Pat’s took their season to 3-1 with an 18 point win over Yarra Valley. The Bushrangers made a late charge but were inaccurate, kicking just 1.5 for the final term. It leaves them in the bottom two with a 1-3 start to 2014. 

Just when you thought Division 2 might be turning a little predictable, a few results are thrown up that make you realise that the season is still only four weeks old. One such result was Elsternwick’s 13 point triumph over Old Eltham Collegians. Aaron Thornton booted five goals as the Wicks made the most of their return to Elsternwick Park Oval No.2 and used all their local advantage to get off the mark in 2014. The Turtles had five goals from Hargrave but it wasn’t enough as they dropped their first points of the campaign. 
Ivanhoe pushed Kew for the first half before the Bears put their foot down in the third quarter to establish a game winning lead. Ivanhoe were brave but Kew showed their depth in the 26 point win. 
St John’s bounced back in a big way with a 93 point thumping of Monash Gryphons. Eleven Jocs kicked majors with half a dozen of them multiple goal kickers. St John’s are 2-2 whilst the Gryphons are 1-3 and are occupying one of the relegation places. 
Old Paradians came from behind to win the close one against South Melbourne Districts by 3 points. Paradians, finalists in this section two seasons ago were hampered by injuries in 2013, but with a 3-1 start to the year they are in good shape early in the year. South Melbourne are one of three teams on one win. 
There was no mercy or charity in the battle of the two Saints. St Mary’s Salesian also bounced back from a loss last week to comprehensively outplay Glen Eira to record the day’s biggest winning margin of 166 points. SMS’ Holmes kicked 6 goals whilst 12 other team mates split the middle in the rout that leaves Glen Eira still without a win since 2012. 

Northern Blues demonstrated the bona fides required in Division 3 to return to the winners list by defeating Aquinas by 11 points. Cormack’s four goals for the Bloods not enough to stop the young running Blues. 
Eley Park Sharks inflicted a first loss of the season on UHS-VU at Whitehorse Reserve. The Shark’s Noel Bahnsen booted eight goals in the 33 point win. The Sharks are 2-2 and have slotted into fifth on the ladder with the Vultures one spot ahead at 3-1. 
Emmaus St Leos enjoyed a morale boosting win at the mercy of South Mornington. Beluszar’s and Hill both booted five goals each as the Animals opened their account in 2014 with a 133 point win. 
Power House found their groove last week but fell two points short, this week they finished on the right side of the ledger in another close one, defeating La Trobe Uni by 8 points. Power House’s poor percentage still has them in 11th spot but they now join La Trobe, Albert Park and Emmaus St Leo’s with one win. 
Richmond Central remain undefeated as Thurwood and Demeo both bagged four goals each in the Snake’s 38 point win over Albert Park. The Snakes sit second behind the competition pace setters Swinburne University. 
Swinburne Uni defeated St Francis Xavier by 39 points to move to the top of the table. The X-Men fall to sixth on the ladder as Swinburne proved they can mix it with the top sides. 

West Brunswick and Hawthorn are both undefeated at the conclusion of round 4 in Division 4. The Magpies held Westbourne Grammarians goalless in the final quarter to run our 40 point winners 
Manningham Cobras levelled their season at 2-2 with an 85 point win over a struggling Dragons. Allan booted four as ten Cobras kicked goals in the win. 
Canterbury continued to show they will be thereabouts come finals time, recording their third win of the season against Point Cook. The Cobras beating the Bulldogs by 41 points to move into third spot whilst Point Cook have had a surprising 1-3 start. 
Hawthorn made easy pickings of their match against Chadstone as they powered to a 134 point win. The Hawks had six goals from Sam Gold and five goals each from Ince and White. The Hawks monster percentage of 397% is surprisingly only 100 more than West Brunswick’s 297%. 
Box Hill North brought their season to level pegging with a 24 point win over North Brunswick. Dan Penny only managed three goals this week but the Demons will be happy with the win regardless of his output.
