After a slow start the VAFA U23 side powered away to a 56 point win of the Tasmanian Under 23s at North Hobart Oval.
Nick De Steiger from Old Melburnians, Vice Captain Tom McKinley (Old Scotch) and Jake Lew (AJAX) led the goal kickers for the visitors with three goals each.
Tassie jumped out of the blocks with the first goal then a series of missed chances before the VAFA started to get on top. Tasmanian forward Tom Bennett was proving a handful though and he ended the day with six goals.
Despite holding a 35 point lead at three quarter time, VAFA coach Andrew Hayes implored his players to finish the job in the last. As the players tired from both sides, the game opened up and goals were kicked at both ends. However the VAFA were again dominant booting six goals to four in the last to finish 56 points clear.
Tom Penberthy (Collegians) was best for the VAFA but he was assisted by many others including Tom Garside (St Bedes/Mentone Tigers), the skipper Marshall Rippon (University Blues) and Nick De Steiger. Jarryd Skene (Old Xaverians) was awarded the Spirit of the Big V Award.
