Premier C shapes as one of the more exciting sections this year, although if Marcellin’s 124 point demolition of Williamstown CYMS is anything to go by, then 2015 could be a procession for the Eagles. No sooner had Willy raised their Division 1 premiership flag than Marcellin reminded everyone just how good they can be. Despite there only being two points in it at the first change, Marcellin put on a clinic thereafter in the first ever meeting between the two clubs. Antypas was the star with 12 goals but he was supported by McMahon (6) and Brotolotto (5) as the Eagles gave the CY’s a reality check.
Peninsula will have enjoyed their drive home from Essendon, as the Pirates proved 77 points too good for PEGS at the Runway. Whitty booted six goals for the Pirates as PEGS could only manage five goals for the day.
The two relegated Premier B sides reminded everyone of the difference between the sections as both Old Ivanhoe and Old Haileyburians had impressive first up wins. The Hoes led Monash Blues all day to run out 50 point winners whilst Old Haileyburians gave Therry Penola one of their worst home and away losses for a couple of seasons, eventually winning by 53 points. Haileyburians were led by Nicolopoulos with five goals whilst Waite and Faulkner both kicked four. Jarrod Bannister booted four of his own in the loss.
Oakleigh’s home game may have been swapped to Old Camberwell, but that didn’t seem to bother the Krushers who played like they were at home in their 81 point win over the Wells. Aaron Cloke booted six goals whilst Krusher’s skipper Dermot Cleary bagged four of his own.
