There were a number of intriguing match ups in Round 2 of Premier C.
Given their respective wins on opening day, Peninsula and Old Haileyburians was the standout out game of the day. It was the home side Pirate who did the business on Old Haileybury, eventually winning by 55 points. The Pirates had four goals form Archdeacon as they sit pretty on top of Premier C after two rounds.
Therry Penola had not lost at home for more than two seasons but Oakleigh were a different proposition than the more recent sides to have visited John Pascoe Fawkner Reserve. The Lions came from 21 points down to win a thriller over Oakleigh by one point. Jarrod Bannister back at his best with seven goals whilst brother Corey chipped in with five. For the Krusher, Aaron Cloke was outstanding booting eight goals in a game for the ages.
Marcellin and Monash Blues have both been finalists in the past two season’s of Premier C, but given their opening round results few could have predicted the boilover that was at Marcelling College. Monash Blues recorded a stunning 35 point win over the Eagles to leave both clubs at 1-1.
Old Cambwerwell hosted Williamstown CYMS at Gordon Barnard and it was the visitors who prevailed as Williamstown secured their first win at Premier C level by 15 points. Ebinger booted six goals for the CY’s, whilst Jackson Eade managed four in a losing cause.
Old Ivanhoe made light work of PEGS at the Pine Lodge as the Bombers find themselves in an awkward spot only two rounds in. The Hoes got home by 49 points, and commence the season with two wins. Ten Old Ivanhoe players kicked goals in the win.
