In perfect conditions for football, Caulfield Grammarians caused the boil over of the round at Whitefriars College on Saturday. After a slow start to the season, Caulfield are starting to hit their straps after giving Fitzroy a serious scare last week and now running over the top of an in-form Friars squad. The fields trailed Whitefriars at every break, failing to capitalise on some promising play and undeservedly finding themselves 19 points down at half time. After the break everything seemed to click into gear and on the back of a best on ground performance by Kirren Poniah and another four goals from Tom Smith the fields ran out impressive 13 point winners.
Old Brighton sent a message to the rest of the competition at Brighton Beach oval, smashing Old Ivanhoe by 116 points. The Tonners and the Hoes were both 3-3 heading into the match, but only one side turned up to play with the Old Brighton keeping Old Ivanhoe goalless for the entirety of the match. The most pleasing aspect of the victory was the fact that the Tonners had twelve goal kickers in what was a complete performance in front of the home crowd. Jack Cowling was best on ground in the win.
Other results from the round included the red hot Parkdale side winning by 44 points over Marcellin, Mazenod were too good for St Bedes/Mentone taking the victory by 34 points, and Fitzroy overpowered Collegians by 83 points.

Old Geelong blew their chances at Carey on Saturday. Needing a win to go outright top, Old Carey kicked far more accurately than their opponents winning by 22 points, yet taking three less scoring shots. Old Geelong will be rueing their inaccuracy on the day as they were on top for long periods of the match. Edward Aujard was a standout for the winners, whilst Campbell Aitken booted three goals to seal victory and first position on the ladder for the Panthers.
Old Camberwell continued their resurgence in an arm wrestle with Hampton Rovers. On the back of Alex Bongiorno’s impressive four goal haul, they were never fronted. Bongiorno has been in impeccable touch of late, booting six goals against St Bernards last week. Fraser Wells continued his stellar start to the season taking best on ground honours in the 11-point win.
Elsewhere, Ormond brushed aside Old Xaverians by 33 points, and Williamstown flexed their muscle against the lowly Snow Dogs, running out 95-point winners.
