Old Yarra building “team DNA” despite loss: Div 2 Women’s Round in Review
An exciting round four of Division 2 Women’s featured some great matchups — this is how it played out. Old Camberwell 1.3.9 def Hampton Rovers 0.6.6 Old Camberwell took on
St Johns continued their unbeaten start to the Division 2 season with an impressive win at Eltham College, defeating Old Eltham by 48 points. The JOCs won the first three quarters convincingly before taking their foot off the pedal in the last. Aaron Thornton again the spark with seven goals for the visitors, whilst the Turtles’ Chris Mizzi booted three.
Northern Blues continued their push up the ladder with another good away win, this time they beat Monash Gryphons by 35 points. Lucas Reynolds booted five goals for the Gryphons but it wasn’t enough to stop Blues from going 5-2 and a game clear of the Turtles in third spot.
Ivanhoe beat Old Paradians in a northern derby of sorts at the Garvey Oval by 26 points. Paradians suffered a second straight defeat and the loss sees them slip from the four whilst Ivanhoe are in second on percentage. The Hoes led by one point at orange time before a five goal to two final quarter saw them over the line.
Richmond Central have been unlucky thus far this year, but luck was on their side in Round 7 as the Snakes beat Elsternwick by 8 goals at Kevin Bartlett reserve. The Snakes move to 3-4 and are by no means out of the race for the four this year as Jake Munro booted another five goals in the win. Elsternwick were well served by Jack Fuller who snared eight goals in a virtuoso performance.
MHSOB also went to 3-4 after they torched South Melbourne Districts by 100 points in Albert Park. Nick Hawking was the star of the show as he kicked 10 goals for the Unicorns. South Melbourne are still without a win and need a huge turn around in fortunes if they are to escape the clutches of the bottom two.
