The Victorian Amateur Football Association’s two senior sides partook in their final training sessions and subsequent team announcements last night in anticipation of their respective matches against Victoria Country and Victoria Country (No. 2) at Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo on Saturday afternoon.
19 players from the senior side’s selected 22 hail from clubs within William Buck Premier while the remaining three – Tom Small, Jay Neratzoglou and Josh Freezer – have been pulled from Caulfield Grammarians and Old Melburnians in Premier B.
Old Trinity’s four Big V representatives are the highest of all clubs, while University Blues and St Bernards possess three each.
Three U23 representatives from last week’s AAFC Carnival in Tasmania are backing it up in Bendigo, with University Blues’ Tom Quinn and Old Trinity pair Gabe Hamilton and Jake Steinhart making the final squad.
11 Premier B players were picked in the Premier B-Division Four side, with coach Simon Williams admitting their experience will be instrumental on the big stage.
“Any experience is good experience, particularly at this level,” he said.
“It’s a finals-like atmosphere and intensity (against Victoria Country) so that’ll be really good to have those guys’ experience.”
It is an even spread of players from a variety of clubs in the Premier B-Division Four side, with St Kevins, Monash Blues, Fitzroy, Hampton Rovers, Old Brighton and Old Haileybury boasting two representatives each.
