Congratulations to Mitch Hannan of St Bernard’s, who has received this week’s Club Warehouse Rising Star nomination.
Hannan arrived at St Bernard’s in 2012, thanks in large to Peter Wood who brought him to the club to play U19 premier football.
Following a promising finish to his 2014 season, Hannan was offered a pre-season with Footscray VFL. Throwing himself at the opportunity, Hannan was rewarded with an offer for a position on Footscray’s 2015 VFL list.
Unfortunately, luck was not on Hannan’s side, as he broke his wrist in a VFL practice match and did not play his first game in 2015 until June.
Since returning from injury, Hannan has become a combo-guard for Bernard’s, combining his ability to rebound from half back with running across the wing and subsequently establishing himself as part of the Bernard’s midfield rotation.
His four senior games for Bernard’s this season have showcased his dynamite leg speed and defensive rebounding prowess.
Hannan is often referred to as ‘Fyfe’ around the club due to his ability to accelerate out of congestion and take the occasional hanger.
St Bernard’s says:
“Mitch came to St Bernard’s seeking to play football at as high a level as possible. At 6’2” and with his athletic abilities and silky skills, we believe Mitch can develop into an A grade footballer who may progress to regular VFL football and, who knows maybe even higher.”
