Big V teach Irish university team our great game

Big V teach Irish university team our great game

A number of VAFA Big V players had the opportunity to organise and run a training session with Irish university AFL team, UCC Bombers, on Wednesday night at the University of Cork.

Set up by coach and former Na Piarsaigh GAA Club player, Eoin O’Sullivan, the Bombers players had the opportunity to learn the basic fundamentals of kicking and handling thanks to the varied drills established by Big V coach, Cam Roberts, and his players.

Despite being new to the game, the 30 eager Bombers’ players showcased a strong desire to learn throughout the hour-long session, with coach Roberts concluding training with a fan-favourite goal kicking competition.

O’Sullivan sought out to organise the training session after he played against the VAFA during their 2011 and 2013 tours of Ireland.

The Big V are currently in the midst of a five-match series against Cork U21’s, Tuam Stars, Combined Universities, Donaghmore/Ashbourne and AFL Great Britain.

Thursday, October 15: VAFA vs Cork U21s
Saturday, October 17: VAFA vs Tuam Stars, Galway
Wednesday, October 21: VAFA vs Combined Universities
Friday, October 23: VAFA vs Donaghmore/Ashbourne
