Big V Weekend is here!
Representative football weekend is upon us, starting with Thursday’s Big V Gala Dinner, then Saturday’s two massive matches against PFL at VAFA HQ and finishing with Sunday’s matches at Bendigo.
The VAFA held its final formal event for the 2015 season with the Annual General Meeting and Presentation Dinner taking place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last night.
Hosted by Football Operations Officer, Sam Confait, the Presentation Dinner proved a success as premiership flags were presented to clubs, as well as a number of individual and team-based awards including recognition for 300-game players Anthony Carbone (Whitefriars) and Paul Wintle (St Bedes/Mentone Tigers).
After leading sensational seasons at the helm of their respective clubs, West Brunswick’s Angus Hamilton and UHS-VU/Flemington’s Marcus Butera took home the title as senior and junior coach of the year.
Monash Blues’ trainer Jo Foo was awarded the Club Warehouse Trainer of the Year Award, while Old Brighton was named Most Disciplined Club and Canterbury for the Best Club Risk Management Program.
After a dominant season in which they claimed the U19 Section 4, Premier Thirds and Premier B flags, St Kevin’s Old Boys capped it all off with the Winning Edge Club Championship.
At the conclusion of the flag presentation, Old Haileybury club President and VAFA stalwart, Mark Seccull, ended proceedings in similar form to his club’s finals series as he gave a candid and stirring speech on behalf of all clubs.
Prior to the presentation dinner, the AGM proved another success as President Tim Nelson, Vice-President Phil De Young and CEO Michael Sholly spoke about the VAFA’s current state of affairs.
Winners:
Junior Coach of the Year – Marcus Butera (UHS-VU/Flemington)

Club Warehouse Trainer of the Year – Jo Foo (Monash Blues)
