Point Cook and Box Hill North played out a sensational high-scoring affair in Division 4, with the Bulldogs running out 38-point victors at Elgar Park. Trailing by one point at the main break, the Bulldogs came out firing as they piled on 14 goals to seven in the final two quarters. Matthew Herbertson starred with five goals for the fast-paced Bulldogs, while Daniel Penny did his bit for the Demons on his way to three goals.
Eley Park Sharks made light work of Mt Lilydale in their return to Division 4, defeating the Rams by 53 points at Whitehorse Reserve. 39 scoring shots to 16 did not tell the whole story of the match as the Rams maintained touch until the final quarter due to accurate kicking in front of goal. Josh Beasley was superb all day for the Sharks, while Dan Isaac kicked four majors.
Westbourne Grammarians were relentless in their pursuit of Round One victory as they piled on 27 goals to defeat Manningham Cobras by 130 points at Koonung Reserve. Ali Eqbal joined last year’s leading goal kicker, Dale Collins, in a dominant display of forward line prowess, kicking seven of the pair’s 12 goals. Scott McPherson did what he could as he sent through three of his side’s six goals.
An eleven-goal opening half set up North Brunswick for a 66-point win against Masala in their Round One clash at WJ Turner Reserve. Ben Gallagher was relentless in front of the big sticks as he piled on five majors for the Bulls. Despite the loss, Masala will take a lot out of a six-goal final term, proving they have the ability to score quickly.
