NOBS find form with strong win over Lions while Saints, Puruntatameri shine against Hoes

Brunswick NOBSPC has found consistency of late as they registered their second consecutive victory with an eight-point win over Therry Penola at Alec Gillon Oval. Holding an 18-point lead at the last break, the NOBS allowed a Lions comeback to tune of six goals to four in the final term but had just enough of a lead to hold on and claim victory. Kyle Docherty starred with four goals and Todd Cleary did the damage around the ground for the second week in a row. Jarrod Bannister is in vintage form for the Lions, bagging four goals and taking his overall tally to 16 from three matches.

St Mary’s Salesian regrouped after last week’s 110-point loss to Old Mentonians and came out firing in their 27-point come-from-behind win against Ivanhoe at Ford Park. Trailing by three points heading into the final term, the Saints were clinical as they booted six goals to one and run away with the win. Gary Puruntatameri snagged five for the Saints, while Karl Kaldawi did the same for the Hoes. The Saints are fourth on the Division 1 ladder with three wins for the years, while the Hoes are seventh with two.

Seven unanswered goals in the opening term has helped PEGS to a 13-point victory against Old Geelong at PEGS Sporting Fields. 23 of the 28 goals kicked for the match were to one end of the ground, but PEGS were able to use the advantage slightly more efficiently as they held on to win in the face of a five-goal to one final term from a courageous OGs outfit. Tylar Vujanic was deadly in front of goal with five in his first hitout for the season, while Trent Skurrie kicked four for the second-placed PEGS. Ogs sit fifth with two wins.

Prahran Assumption were able to break Old Mentonians’ four-game 100-point winning streak but still went down to the Panthers by 47 points at Toorak Park. The Panthers’ forward line prowess is something to behold, with Kyle Conlon, Cameron Sharp and Darcy Brown bagging four each this week. John Robbins and Jack Matherson recorded three majors each for the Two Blues, who now sit ninth on the ladder with a win and a draw from their first five games. The Panthers have kicked 363 more points than their nearest rival and allowed the lowest amount of points against this year.

Whitefriars proved far too strong or Old Paradians as they registered a 49-point win at Whitefriars College. Michael Nitas starred with five goals for the Friars in a best-on-ground performance and Ciaran Hickey bagged four. Michael Boundy played a lone hand for the Raiders, kicking six goals in his best personal performance of the year.
