Bannister makes it 17 from three as Lions prove too strong for Raiders in Division 1

Bannister makes it 17 from three as Lions prove too strong for Raiders in Division 1

Old Mentonians showcased more strings to their bow with a hard-fought two-goal victory against Whitefriars at Keysborough Playing Fields. Leading by 29 points at the last break, the Panthers gave up five goals while adding just two of their own in the fourth term, but ultimately had the composure to settle and hold out for the four points. Darcy Brown, Kyle Conlon and Robert Turnbridge recorded three majors each for the Panthers, while Kieran Hayes snagged a goal and was clearly the Friars’ best.

Old Geelong maintained touch with the top four as they defeated an in-form Brunswick NOBSPC by 51 points at Como Park. Jock Grimshaw continues to provide a reliable tall target down forward with three goals for the OGs and Hugh McKay was at his devastating best. Gerrard Bence flew the flag for NOBSPC with four majors to his name.

St Mary’s Salesian made it two wins on the trot and retained their fourth spot on the Division 1 ladder with a 15-point victory over PEGS at Ferndale Park. Gary Puruntatameri did the damage in front of goal as he kicked three of his side’s nine, while Brad Jones snagged two in another standout performance for PEGS.

A five-goal haul from Karl Kaldawi helped Ivanhoe to a 24-point victory against Prahran Assumption at Ford Park. Backing up his five from last week, Kaldawi has now kicked 17 for the year and looks to be entering a rich vein of form in the Hoes’ forward 50. Reuben Blackmore-Moore did the damage around the ground for the winning side, while Harrison Taylor kicked three for the Two Blues.

Jarrod Bannister and Adam Pattison entered a shoot out in front of goals but it was Therry Penola who came away with the points as they defeated Old Paradians by 56 points at John Pascoe Reserve. Bannister is in vintage form and his six goals makes it 17 from the past three matches. Hamish Donohoe was named best afield for his stunning display for the Lions. Pattison kicked his second consecutive bag of four, but it proved too little as the Raiders still search for their first win of the year.
