Sharks & Roys draw level, Tigers by a point & Rovers win first for the year in thrilling day of Premier B

Nothing separated Fitzroy and Beaumaris at the end of the Premier B clash, with scores tied at 82 apiece when the final siren sounded. The Roys trailed by 10 points at three quarter time but nailed 3.4 to 1.6 in the final term to draw level moments prior to the final siren. Nathan Ligris starred for the Roys, while Thomas Dean showed why he’s in the Big V squad with a standout performance for the Sharks. The draw is the Sharks first non-win for the year but they still sit two points clear of Old Scotch at the top of the ladder. The Roys are eighth and haven’t lost a match since Round 4.

Old Scotch kept in touch with Beaumaris at the top of the table following their hard-fought 15-point win against Old Brighton at Brighton Beach Oval. A four-goal to one first term set up the win for the Cardinals, as they held the Tonners at an arm’s length for the remainder of the match. Aiden Franetic and Gene van den Broek starred for the second-placed Cardinals, while Harry Hill fought bravely for the ninth-placed Tonners.

St Bedes/Mentone Tigers came from nine points down at the final break to overrun Parkdale Vultures and claim a one-point victory at Brindisi Street Oval. The Tigers gave up an eight-point half time lead as the Vultures kicked four goals to two in the third, but an improved fourth-quarter effort gave the Tigers the lead late in the game. Brayden O’Toole was instrumental in the Tiger’s comeback and finished with three goals in a best-on-ground performance, while Nathan Ng and Charlie Dillon were the Vultures’ best.

Monash Blues climbed to fifth spot on the Premier B ladder after they defeated Ajax by 47 points at Frearson Oval. Eight first-half goals to five set the scene for the Blues’ third win of the season, with Alfred Oppy and Maddison Hardiman leading from the front. Jordan Cohen and David Fayman combined for six goals for the Jackas, who now sit seventh on the back of three consecutive losses.

Hampton Rovers tasted victory for the first time this season, defeating Old Haileybury by 28 points at Princes Park, Caulfield. After a low-scoring first term, the Rovers put together their strongest three quarters for the year as they piled on 14 goals to 10. Nathan Smith starred with five goals in a best-on-ground display, while Sam Bradford, Daniel Corp and Sam Clements combined for seven. Josh Dawson did his utmost for the Bloods with four of his side’s 11 goals.
