By VAFA · July 16, 2016
Individual hauls of 11, 11, 10 & 9 headline Division 3 action

UHS-VU went two games clear in fifth position on the ladder as they defeated Swinburne University by 62 points at Brens Oval. Mitchell Sweeney produced his strongest game for the season with nine goals for the Vultures and Esubalew Ramsay starred in a BOG display, while Jackson Manning continued his stellar form for the Razorbacks as their most prolific onballer.

La Trobe University’s unbelievable mid-season run continued as they notched their ninth win in a row with a comprehensive 132-point win against Parkdside at La Trobe University Oval. Mitchell Gleeson was unstoppable up forward, booting 10 goals and taking his season tally to 59 from 13 games, while Elliot Kelly sent home four of his own. Darren Gresham’s BnF hopes increased with his sixth BOG for the Red Devils this season. In all games bar one, Gresham has been named in the top three players for Parkside.

South Melbourne Districts earnt a much-needed percentage boost in fourth spot on the ladder, defeating Aquinas by 75 points at Lindsay Hassett Oval. Max Mitchell-Russell had a day out at Albert Park’s precint, booting 11 goals in a BOG performance for the Swans. Jordan Heis was prolific all day, while Michael Jess and Russell Foster were the Bloods’ best.

Power House came from four points down at the end of the first half and ran over Albert Park to the tune of four at Beaurepaire Pavilion. Unfortunately individual stats for Power House were not made available at the time of writing this article, but Adrian Snowden and Cale Blizzard combined for seven of the Falcons’ goals.

Glen Eira’s undefeated run stretched a little further this weekend as they defeated Canterbury by 46 points at Packer Reserve. Leading by 17 at the last break, the Saints piled on seven goals to two in the final term, with Julius Waras-Carstensen (five) and Alex Erwin-Ross (four) the main recipients up forward. Anthony Cvek starred for the Saints, while Sam Murphy and Rowan Moody were best for the Cobras.

11 individual goals from Ross McDermott helped the power house that is Hawthorn AFC to a comprehensive 167-point win against Elsternwick at Rathmines Reserve. After just falling over the line against Swinburne in their last outing, the Hawks hit back hard and unfortunately it was the Wickers who copped the brunt of it. Sam Gold, Steve Wintle and Russell White each kicked four goals and added to the monstrous 224-point tally for the Hawks, while James Christie kicked two alongside a standout performance from Andrew Old field for the Wickers.
