Rovers, Roys record important wins in Premier B action

Beaumaris inflicted Old Scotch’s fourth loss from their past five meetings, defeating them by 19 points at Banksia Reserve. Stephen Milne was unstoppable on his way to four goals for the Sharks and Scott Gower was named BOG. Gene Van Den Broek stood tall for the Cardinals as their best player, and they remain in third position on the ladder but just percentage has them above Monash Blues.

Four goals from Ned Fallon and a Nathan Smith sealer in the last minute gave Hampton Rovers a much-needed win over Old Haileybury at Boss James Reserve. Despite recording six less scoring shots (16-22), the Rovers led at every break on their way to a third win of the season. Shane Valenti was the sole multiple goal scorer for the Bloods as they sit one position and one win above the Rovers in ninth.

Old Brighton kept Parkdale Vultures to just one goal for the match and ran out 50-point winners at Brighton Beach Oval. Young gun, Thomas Fisher, did his Rising Star chances no harm in a best-on-round performance, while Petrus Olivier and Michael Slater registered two goals each for the Vultures. Thomas Redmond kicked the one and only for the Vultures who fall to eighth spot on the ladder, behind the Tonners and Ajax on percentage only.

Fitzroy gave St Bedes/Mentone Tigers something to think about heading into the latter part of the season, defeating the Tigers by 12 points at Brunswick Street Oval. It was all the Roys in the first quarter of the match as they piled on four goals from 12 scoring shots and created a 25-point buffer which would ultimately prove the difference. Chris Doherty kicked two goals and Aiden Lambert tore shreds in a best afield display for the Roys, while George Rowlands was the only Tigers to kick more than one goal.

Monash Blues solidified their spot in the top four as they defeated Ajax by 24 points at Gary Smorgon Oval. Eight goals to two in the opening three quarters sealed the deal for the Blues, despite being outscored four goals to one in the fourth. Nick Petering, Alfred Oppy and Andre Headberry each registered two goals, while Richie Simon kicked three for the Jackas.
