Two Blues hunting two flags
“That was our line-in-the-sand moment. We didn’t lose again all year.” Craige Milward walked into a coaching interview with Prahran in the middle of October 2023 not sure what to
Richmond Central claimed their first senior win in 638 days when they defeated Albert Park by 81 points at Ross Gregory Oval. 12 goals to four in the opening half set the scene as Jake Munro continued his form in front of the sticks with a bag of seven. Sam Brown (four) starred and was named best afield for the Snakes, helping his side close out the match with 35 scoring shots to 19. James Brick and Jack Welsh were again the best for the Falcons as they sit seventh on the ladder and two spots above the Snakes.
Westbourne Grammarians continued their winning ways with an impressive 16-point come-from-behind victory over Canterbury. Trailing at each break throughout the day, the Warriors piled on five goals to two in the fourth term and claimed third spot on the ladder from the Cobras. Last year’s Division 4 Grand Final medallist, Chris Hudson, was at his dominant best for the Warriors and Nick Schiano kicked three goals. Thomas Lowden (four) and Sam Murphy impressed for the Cobras who fall below the Warriors into fourth spot following the loss.
UHS-VU flexed its muscle against an out-of-form South Melbourne Districts and ran out 88-point victors at Lindsay Hassett Oval. The Vultures had 32 scoring shots to 14; including, six goals in both the first and third quarters. James Gilfillan was irrepressible in his first outing for the year, while Douglas Payton (four), Connor McCutcheon (four) and Gerard Sharrock (four) booted the bulk of the Vultures’ 19 goals. Luke Money is playing a lone hand for the Swans at the moment and was their best player for the third consecutive week. Jeremy Corby also continued his hot form.
An undermanned Power House strengthened its premiership credentials with a 39-point victory against La Trobe University in Bundoora. Despite missing Nick Nagel to a hamstring strain alongside several of its starting 22, the House jumped out to a 22-point first term lead and rarely looked back. River Carroll backed up his eight majors last weekend with another four in a BOG display for the House, while Bradley Fendyk snagged two and was the most impressive player for the Trobers.
Point Cook registered their second win for 2017, defeating Swinburne University by 19 points at Saltwater Reserve. Andrew Auciello kicked three in a BOG performance for the Bulldogs and Robbie Milne gave him ample assistance. William Wood (two) was the only multiple goal scorer for the Razorbacks who will be disappointed after their gallant victory over La Trobe Uni last week. The Bulldogs sit eighth on the Division 3 ladder and two spots below the Razorbacks.
