NOBS snap streak, PEGS assume number one mantle

Ormond produced their most clinical performance of the year as they defeated Whitefriars by a monster 120 points at EE Gunn Reserve. The Monders held a 33-point lead at the half time break but exploded in the third with nine goals to three. They maintained their dominance with another eight unanswered in the fourth. Matthew Hine was the main recipient with seven goals for the Monders while Thomas Buckley nailed five.  Angus Hands impressed for the Friars as they slump to their sixth straight loss. The Monders retain fourth spot.

Brunswick NOBSPC snapped a four-game winless streak when they ran over Ivanhoe by 19 points at Ivanhoe park. Trailing by six points at the first break, the NOBS sent home eight goals to three to build an unassailable lead heading into the half. Teams were even with six goals apiece in the second half with the second term proving the difference. Gerard Bence (one) starred in a BOG display for NOBS, while Chris Ford, Matt Shannon and Thomas Campbell shared the goals with four each. Mitch Lovell turned it on up forward for the Hoes with six goals, but they remain with just one win for the year.

PEGS assumed outright top spot on the Division 1 lader with an 18-point victory over St Mary’s Salesian at PEGS Sporting Fields. The top-of-the-table clash was as good as the build-up, with the Bombers coming from 34 points at quarter time and nailing 12 of the last 16 goals. Adrian Romanyk returned to the line-up with four goals and Brad Jones kicked three in a BOG performance for the Bombers. Tim Dudgeon was the most damaging player for the Saints as they fell to their first loss of the year.

Oakleigh proved far too strong for St John’s across four quarters as they ran out 78-point winners at Thomas Carroll Reserve. Trailing by seven points at the first break, the Krushers piled on 19 of the next 24 goals; including, 13 in the second half. Tim Scott backed up his six goals from last week with eight, while Trevor Bromley added seven for the fifth-placed Krushers. Liam O’Connor fought bravely for the JOCs and Aaron Thornton top-scored with five of his own. The JOCS fall to seventh, one spot below NOBS.

The Preston Bullants express continued to roll with a comfortable 33-point victory over Therry Penola at Ruthven Reserve. Leading by 37 in the first term, the Bullants gave up eight goals in the second as the Lions came out firing. However, it was to no avail as the Bullants solidified victory with eight goals to five in the second half. Christian Useinov (two) was unstoppable and named BOG for the Bullants, while John Humphrey starred for the second consecutive week for the Lions.
