Fields ignite, Nodders down Jackas

Old Carey made a huge statement in Premier B with a 38-point victory over St Bernard’s in a top of the table cash at Carey Sports Complex With scores levelled at 53 apiece at the final break, the Panthers kicked truly with the wind behind them in the final term, piling on five goals and eight behinds while keeping their opponents scoreless. Charlie Thompson, Will Nichols and Cam Wallace kicked the sealers throughout the final term before Guy Dickson and Kristian Jaksch iced the game late. Nichols was named best afield while Henry Schade starred in defence. Shaun Clarke and Jake Maher were outstanding for the Snow Dogs while captain Simon Caven made his return despite hurting his finger late in the match via a touched behind.

Mazenod registered their first win for 2018 with a comprehensive 34-point victory over Ajax at Central Reserve. Leading by 26 at the half, the Nodders added another six goals to five as they closed out the match. Thomas Warby kicked a goal and was BOG, while Chris Campbell and Mitchel D’Angelo chipped in with two goals each. Daniel Janover-Rocha fought valiantly for the Jackas but to no avail as they fall to fifth spot on the ladder.

26 scoring shots to 10 helped Caulfield Grammarians to a 71-point victory over Monash Blues at Frearson Oval. Eight goals to one set the tone of the match as the Fields asserted their dominance early, before piling on another seven goals to three in the second half. 10 individual goal kickers shared the spoils for the Fields, but it was Harry Schaffer who top-scored with three. Joseph McClelland starred in a best-on-ground performance for the winners, while Joe Harrison was the best of the Blues. The loss is the Blues’ second consecutive and they sit 10th with a percentage of 30.71%, while the Fields move to sixth.

Beaumaris made it two from two as they defeated Old Haileybury by 41 points at Princes Park in Caulfield. Leading by 13 points at quarter time, the Sharks kicked 11 of the next 18 goals to ensure an undefeated start to the season. After booting four last week, Rob Cathcart added another three for the Sharks alongside a trio of majors from Will Edmonds, while Matt Petering was best afield. Jarrod Plymin was impressive for the Bloods who sit eighth on the ladder and are yet to register a win.

University Blacks solidified second spot on the ladder with a 51-point win over Parkdale Vultures at Gerry Green Reserve. After kicking 1.9 in a wildly inaccurate first term, the Blacks found their groove and broke even with 11.11 to 5.4 in the last three terms. Lachlan Huntington added another three goals to his season tally while Lochy Dornauf nailed two. Matt Burt and Sam Bennett were named best afield for the Blacks, while Zac Straker and Charlie Dillon fought hard for the winless Vultures.
