Williamstown CYMS held on to top spot of Premier C as they defeated Old Geelong by 79 points at Fearon Reserve. 29 scoring shot to 10 told the story of the CYs dominance as they allowed just four goals (three in Q2 and one in Q4) while piling on 16 of their own. Jack Gray, Ben Deller and Nick Ebinger each booted three goals for the CYs, while teammate Ben Connolly was named best afield following his own standout display. John Simson and Matt Kirkwood fought hard for the Ogs but they now have three wins from their opening five and sit fourth after PEGS jumped ahead this weekend.
Fitzroy did their utmost to dislodge the CYs from top spot as they dismantled St Mary’s Salesian to the tune of 134 points at Ferndale Parl. Clearly unfazed by the smaller ground, the Roys had 58 soring shots for a grand total of 28.30.198 while the Saints kicked 10.4 at the other end. Luke Mahoney will be impressed by the sheer number of contributors for the Roys as they had 13 goal kickers, while Thomas O’Donnell was BOG. Joel Mattiske and Josh Tanner flew the flag for the Saints, but they were outmatched at every turn and took a percentage hit from 74.77 to 61.43. The Roys sit in second and just .52% below the CYs.
Seven unanswered goals in the final term helped PEGS to their third win of the season, defeating Old Ivanhoe by 40 points at PEGS Sporting Fields. Adrian Romanyk was the main destroyer and could do no wrong as he booted nine goals in a match-winning performance. David Fahey continued his outstanding form for the Bombers, while Adrian Del Monte top-scored with four goals for the Hoers. PEGS now climb above Ogs and Marcellin into third spot on the Premier C ladder while the Hoers slump to ninth with just one-win to their name for the season so far.
Old Camberwell’s strong recent form continued as they claimed an impressive Round 5 scalp with an 11-point win over Marcellin at Gordon Barnard Reserve. It was a see-saw battle with neither side leading by more than six points at any break throughout the day before the Wellers booted five goals to three in the fourth term. Joe Arnold starred in a BOG display while James Allen, Nick Latsas and Nick Adamson each kicked three goals for the Wellers. Ash Viney was outstanding for the Eagles, as was Jacob Gasparini and James Robertson. The win gives the Wellers a bit of breathing space as they move to two wins and seventh spot on the ladder. The Eagles also have two wins but sit fifth with a far greater percentage.
Peninsula’s full-time return to the school has reaped no benefits so far in 2018 as they slumped to their third defeat at home via a 71-point loss to Old Mentonians. The Panthers set the tone early with seven goals to two in the opening quarter and continued to build upon their lead with 12 goals to five for the remainder of the match. Lachlan Boyd was on fire up forward and top-scored with six goals for the Panthers, while Mitchell Coen also proved a handful for the opposition with four. Tom Feldgen and James Pomeroy were the best of the Pirates as they sit in eighth spot on the ladder, two below the Panthers.
