Beaumaris were too strong for Hampton Rovers when the two sides met under lights at Boss James Reserve on Friday night, winning by 46 points and leaving the Rovers goalless for the match. Beaumaris maintained momentum throughout the clash and never looked to lose as they produced a solid team effort. Sasha Long, Big V star from last season, returned for the Sharks and was named one of the best afield, alongside Jemima Kelly and Simone Payton. Nadia Eldred kicked 2 and was a solid target up forward for the Sharks. Amy Cullen continued her standout form for the Rovers as their best player, while Chloe Mirams and Lucy Timmons fought hard.
Old Brighton were flawless as they took down Old Carey in a comprehensive 37-point victory at Carey Sports Complex. In a one-sided encounter, the Tonners were dominant for four quarters, leaving Old Carey goalless for the entirety of the clash. India Tait, Iona Miller and Siena Visentini were the best players for Old Brighton, whilst Old Carey’s Sophie Richards and Mia Fitton fought hard in their side’s loss. Old Brighton continue their solid form heading into round 6, with only one loss to Scotch, whilst Old Carey remain positioned towards the bottom end of the eight.
Old Haileybury edged past a courageous Old Mentonians side in a tight encounter at Keysborough Playing Fields. Old Mentonians led by nine points at the main break and looked solid heading into the second half, however Old Haileybury fought hard and came away with an incredible third quarter to seal the deal and command the lead for the rest of the match, with the final winning margin standing at 6 points. Pulli Gardiyawasam continued her goalkicking dominance with 3 majors, named second best afield for her side, just behind an impressive best on ground display from Frances Land. Belinda Griffiths was formidable for Old Mentonians kicking a bag of 3 majors, while Jesse Hamill was also influential in such a close battle. Old Haileybury continued their stellar season with their fourth victory.
Old Scotch Stars continue their reign in the Premier B White fixture, taking out AJAX by 55 points at Gary Smorgon Oval. At quarter time, both teams had booted a single goal and it was seeming a close contest, however the following three quarters were all Scotch, with the Stars showcasing several standout individual efforts to get them well over the line. Lily Goss, Stacey Mastras and Chloe Eckersley all impressed with 2 goals each for the Stars, while Justine Gabriel had an impressive game for AJAX, alongside consistent ball winner Issy Burstin. The Stars maintain their top of the table lead while AJAX’s third straight loss pushed them further down the ladder.
