Guns put on a show, OMs make statement in Division 2

An impressive second half helped Old Ivanhoe secure a 22-point victory against Bulleen Templestowe at Ted Ajani Reserve on Saturday to kick off Round 6. The Hoers were able to maintain control in the first half, though could only manage a slim eight-point margin at the main break. Bulleen took until the last quarter to kick its first goal, with the honor going to Jacqui Krienke, but Old Ivanhoe doubled its entire score in the final 20 minutes to run over the top of its opponents. Demi Mihaloudis top scored with two goals for the Hoers while Scarlett and Bella Reeves-Smyth, alongside Ruby Walker, were among the best. Madelyn Davies was again one of Bulleen’s best, but the loss is Bulleen’s third in a row and pushes the club to the bottom of the ladder, while Old Ivanhoe remains steady in fourth.  

Billed as the top-of-the-table clash, the Old Melburnians sent a prominent statement by keeping Williamstown CYMS goalless to win by a 43-point margin at Elsternwick Park Oval. The Old Melburnians handed Williamstown its first loss of the season, but it was inaccuracy in front of the goals that stopped the game being a blowout, with the victors kicking 5.14 for the match. Melburnians’ Monique Tarrant was named best afield for a second week in row, kicking two goals for the day. Williamstown were able to notch a sole point in the final quarter, with Jacqueline Ramirez the best for the visitors. The win pushes Old Melburnians into top position on the ladder and moves Williamstown down into second place through percentage.

Whitefriars Football Club scored its third win in a row in front of supporters, exposing Aquinas by 23 points at Whitefriars College Oval. With Aquinas still in with a chance as they trailed by 11 heading into the final term, Whitefriars finished out the game strong, keeping Aquinas scoreless as they booted two goals of their own to seal the win. Whitefriars’ Eilish Boyd was again the star in front of goal, slotting two majors, while Maggie O’Shannassy was influential for the victors. Molly Sheehan and Jessica Cridland converted each of Aquinas’ two goals. Whitefriars Football Club sits comfortably in third, trailing the top two only through percentage, while Aquinas sits three wins outside the top four in fifth.

De La Salle nabbed its first win of the season to move off the bottom of the ladder, after cruising to a 24-point victory over Oakleigh at D.W Lucas Reserve to finish the round. De La Salle raced to an 18-point early lead in the first term, and while Oakleigh were able to bring the margin back down to 12 points heading into the fourth, De La Salle scored two majors in the final term to take the result beyond doubt. De La Salle’s Sally Fyfield, in her second match, kicked her first goal of the season and by the final siren had another, with her performance judged best afield. Notably Fyfield has scored best on ground honors in both her two matches. Madeline Bregazzi was also impressive for Oakleigh, scoring her first best on ground performance in just her second match as well, as Oakleigh remains in sixth after the loss.
