Wellers on the move, Hoers return to form

Wellers on the move, Hoers return to form

Old Camberwell made it four wins in a row after they defeated Old Geelong by 14 points at Gordon Barnard Reserve. The Wellers led by seven points at half time but won the game with three unanswered goals in the third, before the Ogs staged a minor comeback with five goals to three in the fourth. Nicholas Adamson continued his outstanding form for the Wellers with four goals alongside standout performances from Chris Hensby and Josh Holding. No results had been submitted for Old Geelong at time of publication.

Fitzroy ended a two-game losing streak in emphatic fashion, defeating St Mary’s Salesian by 139 points at Brunswick St Oval. Leading by just one point at the first break, the Roys piled on nine unanswered goals in a dominant second term before running away with another 14 goals to two in the second half. Nathan Ligris did not hit the scoreboard but starred in a BOG display alongside goal kickers Sam Baker (6), Julian Turner (4) and Nathan Jumeau (4). Joel Mattiske and Ben Andrews were standouts for the 10th-placed Saints.

Old Ivanhoe returned to form in a big way, defeating Peninsula by 71 points at Chelsworth Park. The Hoers, who sit seventh on the Premier C ladder, kicked seven goals to two in the opening term and did not look back as they held the Pirates off with a further 12 goals to seven in the remaining three quarters. 10 players hit the scoreboard for the Hoers with Nick Reeves-Smyth continuing his outstanding form with three goals and a BOG display. Mikey Mclellan impressed for the Pirates, but they are struggling at 1-9 and in ninth spot on the ladder.

Williamstown CYMS certainly didn’t slow down after the week’s break, defeating Old Mentonians by 97 points at Keysborough Playing Fields. Eight goals to one in the opening term set the scene for the CY’s dominant display, with Lewis Kennedy coming into the side and slotting five majors. Jacob Wheelahan was best afield for the second time in three games, while Joel Hogarth also impressed. Luke Hull was the best of the Panthers who sit eighth with three wins, two clear of the relegation zone.

Marcellin claimed their fourth consecutive victory, defeating PEGS by 11 points at PEGS Sporting Fields. In what was a low-scoring affair (7.11 – 6.6) the Eagles got on top early and held the Bombers off if only by six points at the last break. Patrick Hamblin and Rowan Mckenzie excelled for the Eagles, while Andrew Khallouf and David Fahey were the best of the Bombers. The Eagles are now a game clear of the Bombers in fourth.
