An Adrian Romanyk goal with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth term secured a six-point win for PEGS over Old Geelong at PEGS Sporting Fields. Leading by just one point at three quarter time, it was a high intensity final term as both sides had chances to win it, with Romanyk getting on the end of a high ball in the 28th minute, marking and converting accordingly. Both Romanyk and Cameron Livori finished the game with three goals each for the Bombers, while defender David Fahey was named best afield. Edward Keach and Tom Balcombe continued their impressive form as the two best Ogs. Ogs, who remain fourth on the ladder, are now on level premiership points as PEGS after they moved from sixth to fifth following the win.
Fitzroy came from behind and secured their 10th win for the season, defeating Marcellin by 23 points at Marcellin College. With star recruit and former St Kilda champion, Leigh Montagna, pulling the boots on for the first time, the Eagles shot out to a 32-point lead at the first break before the Roys clawed their way back into the match with 12 of the last 15 goals. Sunny Brazier led the way for the Roys with four goals and Ross Borland snagged three. Isaac Nolan booted four at the other end for the Eagles alongside a standout performance from Max Di Ciccio. The second-placed Roys remain two games clear of the Wellers, while the Eagles slide from fifth to sixth after the Bombers win over Ogs.
Old Camberwell went one game clear in third spot on the Premier C ladder following their 12-point come-from-behind victory over Old Mentonians. The Wellers trailed at every break throughout the match before the Wellers kicked three unanswered goals in the fourth to snatch victory. Robert Deev and Lachie Powell were outstanding for the Wellers, while Darcy Brown kicked three goals and was named the best for the Panthers for the second week in a row. The Panthers remain eighth, one game clear of relegation but with a far healthier percentage than both Peninsula and St Mary’s Salesian below them.
Old Ivanhoe improved their record to five wins with a 41-point victory over St Mary’s Salesian at Chelsworth Park. The Hoers shot out of the blocks with 11 goals to six in the opening half and built upon their lead slightly with another six goals to four in the second half. Club champion Adrian Del Monte kicked his second bag of five for the season and took his club goal kicking tally to 450. Richard Skok and Justin Powick were outstanding contributors for the Hoers, while Jake Evans and Heath Chipperfield were named best for the Saints. Manny Dolan and Louis Holmes also kicked three goals each for the 10th-placed Saints as they continue their search for a second win. The Hoers are seventh and two games outside the four.
Williamstown CYMS had few issues recording their 11th win of the season, running over Peninsula by 49 points at Peninsula School Ground. In a relatively low-scoring affair from the CYs point of view, they opened with four goals to one in the first term and added eight goals to four in the remaining three quarters. Ben Connolly was named best afield for the CYs and Ben Gray top-scored with thee majors. Angus Grant and Rob Bambery fought hard for the Pirates as they languish in ninth spot on the ladder with two wins for the year.
