Whitefriars continue to push for a double chance in finals, beating Williamstown CYMS by 13 points at Whitefirars College Oval to sit one win outside the Top 2. With the Friars up by 28 points at three quarter time, CY attempted to close the margin by outscoring the Friars 2.3 to 0.1 in the final term, but fell short of a victory in the end. Friars forward Eilish Boyd was again consistent with her two goals (which takes her season tally to 21), while Clare Fernandes was hard to beat. Ruby Tripodi was judged CY’s best, and impressively has been named in the best in all three of her games this season. Despite the loss, Williamstown will also feature in finals actions as they now sit two games ahead of fifth.
Old Melburnians will finish the Women’s Division 2 season as minor premiers after locking up the top spot with a 46-point win over Oakleigh at Elsternwick Park Oval. The Krushers were unable to get themselves into the match after being rendered goalless, while OMFC kicked six of their own. In what was a complete team effort, with six individual goal scorers, it was Georgie Johnson and Georgia Dunlop who stood out in the winning side, while Elena Michael was Oakleigh’s best.
Bulleen Templestowe’s finals chances have vanished after Old Ivanhoe defeated the fifth placed side by 10 points at Chelsworth Park. Sitting two wins outside the Top 4, the Bullants desperately needed to win to stay in touch with fourth placed Williamstown CYMS, but now remain two games below with one round remaining. The Bullants led on the scoreboard in the first half, initially by six points, and then by one at half time. But the margin was soon flipped before the final break, with the Hoers taking a one point lead of their own into the final quarter, in which they ran out the stronger of the two teams. The in-form Romy Costa was best afield for the Hoers, Jacqueline Mitchelhill again impressed, while Kaitlyn Bloomfield finished as the only multiple goal scorer of the day when she kicked both of the Bullants’ goals.
Aquinas recorded their fifth win of the season with a 26 point win over De La Salle at Burwood Reserve. It was Caitlin Flanagan’s five goal haul that put her side in the driver’s seat, with the team already up by 15 points at three quarter time. Sarah Beattie kicked the Bloods other two majors, Emily O’Keefe was judged Best on Ground in the win, while Abbey Snell and Michelle Ball were De La Salle’s best. Both teams sit outside finals equations after Round 13, with Aquinas in sixth and De La Salle in eighth.
