From formation to A-Grade: Old Geelong Women’s makes history
Old Geelong Football Club opened its 2025 season in historic fashion, with its women’s side marking their first year in the William Buck Premier competition with two wins straight out
Old Geelong completed its home and away season in style, defeating Williamstown CYMS by 48 points at Como Park. Trailing by three points at quarter time, OGs piled on 14 goals to four thereafter with Christian Hatzis starring on his way to a five-goal haul. William Sloss was best afield for the third-placed OGs as was William Chan for the CYs. The CYs still take out the minor premiership with 16 wins for the year and face Fitzroy in next week’s second semi-final. Old Geelong will take on Old Camberwell in their elimination final.
Fitzroy capped off their regular season with a thrilling two-point victory over PEGS at Brunswick St Oval. The Roys trailed by nine points at three quarter time but kicked three goals to one in the final term. Max Ellis and Sam Baker each kicked three goals for Roys, while Jack Condon continued his strong individual form for the Bombers. The Roys sit second on the ladder entering finals and PEGS end their season in eighth with seven wins.
Old Mentonians officially avoided relegation this week as they ran out 44-point winners over St Mary’s Salesian at Keysborough Playing Fields. They led by 18 points at half time but sealed the game with six goals to two in the third. Keiffer Smith-Cameron starred with four goals for the Panthers, while Manny Dolan booted five for the Saints. The Saints were resigned to relegation weeks ago but finished the season with their highest score since Round 14.
18 goals to two in the opening three terms helped Old Camberwell to a comprehensive 104-point win over Peninsula. Nick Adamson (7) and Nick Latsas (5) were unstoppable up forward and kicked 12 between them for the Wellers, while Shaun Payze was a standout for the Pirates. The Wellers face OGs in next week’s first semi and the Pirates will officially return to Division 1 with just five wins for the year.
Marcellin finished the 2018 season in fifth spot on the Premier C ladder, defeating Old Ivanhoe by 52 points at Marcellin College. Isaac Nolan kicked a season-high five goals for the Eagles and James Robertson found plenty of it in a BOG display. Richard Skok and Kane Veliou booted three each for the Hoers as they finish their season in sixth position.
