Ivies too strong for Tonners as Sharks keep circling

Sarah Ward

Ivanhoe AFC v Old Brighton

Ivanhoe claimed their second win for the season, defeating Old Brighton by 22-points at Ivanhoe Park. The Ivies managed to keep the Tonners goalless until the final quarter, when the Tonners kicked their one and only major. The Ivies controlled the game from the bounce, gaining momentum and building upon each quarter, entering half time leading by 15 points. The Ivies defence had all the answers to the Tonners’ forward movement, enabling them to capitalise upon moving the ball quickly from the half-back flank in a cohesive fashion. Standout performances from the Ivies came from Tahlia Day, who performed fearlessly in the ruck, along with Genevieve Grose who played a key role at centre half back. Ashton Bridge kicked two for her side and showcased her classy skills in the midfield. Impressive performances from the Tonners came from India Tait, Sophie Grant and Layla Ellis.

Hawthorn AFC v Old Haileybury

Coming off the back of a comprehensive loss last week, Old Haileyburians came out firing on Saturday, beating Hawthorn by 25 points at Rathmines Reserve. The Hawks kept it a tight affair in the first half and entered the main break with a five-point deficit. In quick succession following half time, the Hearts extended their lead with two quick goals. The Hearts dominated inside 50, not allowing the Hawks defence to rest. Strong performances came from Anna Mairead Stewart, who displayed her classy skill-set, along with Carly Dillon and Danielle Frawley for the Hearts. Jessica Wright kicked two goals for the Hearts, reaping the reward of the opportunities in the forward 50. Helena West, Sarah Delbosc and Paris Penny showcased courageous performances for the Hawks.

Williamstown CYMS v Old Scotch

Old Scotch continue to have all the answers and go into Round 4 undefeated after beating Williamstown CYMS by 51 points. The Stars appeared relentless in their attack of the ball and pressure around the stoppages and entered half time leading by 22-points, conceding one goal to the Seagals. The final half saw the Stars capitalise upon forward 50 opportunities, not allowing the Seagals a solitary point. Key performances from the Seagals came from Shannon Egan who fought hard across the half-back flank and ruck, Kacie Cook and Zoe Day. Maxine Wells and Lily Goss displayed superb leadership and composure for the Stars. Lucy Pollock showcased her dominance in the forward line by kicking three goals for the Stars.

Beaumaris v Old Mentonians

Beaumaris join Old Scotch as the team to beat, moving to Round 4 undefeated after beating Old Mentonians by 30 points at Banksia Reserve. The game was hard fought, with much of the play congested in windy conditions. The Panthers applied strong pressure around the ball, entering half time down by only 11 points. The Sharks played fast football, utilising quick ball movement which allowed them to take control in the third quarter with multiple rebound goals from half back. Best on performances for Beaumaris came from Hailey Pratt, Stephanie Thompson and Emily Van De Water. Thea Brown displayed her dominance in the forward line as she kicked four goals for the Sharks. Madi Capsalis had a strong game for the Panthers in her first game back from injury while Ciara Scott and Ruby Fallon also impressed.
