Big V Weekend is here!
Representative football weekend is upon us, starting with Thursday’s Big V Gala Dinner, then Saturday’s two massive matches against PFL at VAFA HQ and finishing with Sunday’s matches at Bendigo.
Albert Park registered their eighth win in a row as they defeated South Mornington by 115 points at Citation Oval. In what was their seventh score of more than 100 from those eight games, the Falcons piled on the hurt after quarter time when they kicked 23 goals to seven. Cale Blizzard and Joshua Beets were the main contributors in front of goal with six majors each while Thomas Wilson booted four in a BOG performance. Jordan Waite and Matthew Wells did their utmost for the Tigers with three goals each.
South Melbourne Districts made it two wins on the trot as they triumphed over Masala-Dandenong by 43 points at Fotheringham Reserve. Six unanswered goals in the second term ultimately won the match for the Swans, with Declan Barlow and Jason Clifford at the forefront of their team’s run. Clifford and Matthew Hives top-scored with three goals, while Leigh Tannahill and Anthony Morabito were standouts for the Tigers.
Elsternwick strengthened their position in the top four with a hard-fought eight-point win over La Trobe University. The Wickers, who have now won four in a row, can thank their accuracy in front of goal given they had two less shots than the Trobers (23-21). Nicholas Lowrie booted three majors and Shane Convery was named best afield for the Wickers, while Andy Castles and William Humphreys impressed for the Trobers.
36 scoring shots to 13 helped St Francis Xavier to a commanding 98-point victory over Eley Park Sharks at Whitehorse Reserve. The X-Men trailed by two points at half time but exploded in the second half with 17 goals to one with both Marcus and Harrison Coe dining out on seven goals apiece. Rohan Suttie continued his outstanding form for the X-Men with three goals in a BOG performance, while no results had been submitted for Eley Park.
