
From formation to A-Grade: Old Geelong Women’s makes history
Old Geelong Football Club opened its 2025 season in historic fashion, with its women’s side marking their first year in the William Buck Premier competition with two wins straight out
Old Ivanhoe moved into third spot on the Premier C ladder with a 19-point victory over Ormond at E.E. Gunn Reserve. The Hoers led by just three points at the last break but kicked away with 5.6 to 3.2 in the final term. Luke Velluto kicked a season-high four goals for the Hoers and Richard Skok proved dangerous with two of his own, while Simon Buckley starred for the Monders with four of his own.
Mazenod displaced Old Mentonians in the top four this week on the back of a two-point victory over the Panthers at Keysborough Playing Fields. The Nodders trailed by 14 points at three quarter time but rallied with four goals to one in the final term. Joshua Muling and David Regan were standouts for the victorious Nodders while Max Rothberg kicked three goals for the Panthers in their second straight loss.
After ending a nine-game losing streak last week, Old Camberwell were brought back to earth with a 129-point thumping at the hands of Williamstown CYMS. The CY’s booted nine goals to two in the opening term and went on to kick 15 of the last 17 thereafter. Ben Gray had a day out with six goals for the CYs while Jack Gray, Oliver Becroft and Jack Noonan kicked three each. While they could only manage four goals for the game, the Wellers were well served by Nicholas Latsas and Simon Bennett.
Marcellin ended a three-game losing streak with a 17-point victory over Hampton Rovers at Marcellin College. The Eagles kicked seven goals to two in the opening half before the Rovers hit back in the third term with five goals to two and reduced the margin to just 11 points. The Eagles found their first half form and finished the match with three goals to two. Alastair Clayton and Daniel Di Paola shone for the Eagles while Harrison McIntyre and Charlie Miles were best for the Rovers.
Ajax proved too strong for PEGS in their Round 13 encounter, running out 56-point winners at Gary Smorgon Oval. The Jackas kicked three unanswered in the opening term and maintained their dominance as the match progressed. Jake Lew booted five goals for the second game in a row while captain Nicholas Lewis starred in a BOG display through the midfield. Samuel Good and Brett Hannah impressed for the Bombers.
