Tigers tame Roys, Sharks still swimming

Remaining inside the top-four over the weekend was St Bedes/Mentone, as they took down Fitzroy by nine-points at Brunswick Street Oval. Managing just seven goals on the afternoon, three from the boot of Tom Tyquin, proved to be the difference as the Tigers star took full advantage of the sloppy conditions. Sunny Brazier and Max Davie received the votes for the Roys, who remain on the bottom of the table tied with three other clubs on four wins.

Keeping their finals hopes alive was Beaumaris as they downed Monash Blues by 31 points at Banksia Reserve. Led by James Taylor and two apiece from Jak Nardino and James Davidson, the Sharks collected their eighth win on the year to remain just a game behind the Tigers for fourth. Mac Cameron and Joe Harrison were the Blues best as they continue to fight to keep their heads above the relegation zone.

All but locking in a top-two finish was Old Scotch in Round 15 as they took apart Old Geelong by 62 points at home. Nick Jamieson and Will Mitchell were given the votes in the victory with Tom Kerr booting his first three goals of the year. Captain Scott Dixon was named the Ogs best, as they remain in the relegation pack with the loss.

13 goals split between Nathan Page (4), Jesse Toniolo (3), Keegan Stewart (3) and Stephen Lachlan (3) helped Caulfield Grammarians cruise to a 92-point victory over Parkdale Vultures at Glenhuntly Oval. William Barker and Tate Short gathered the votes in what was the Fields’ biggest win of the year. Jack Edwards was named the Vultures’ best with two majors in another loss for the reeling side.

Collecting their fifth straight win and keeping their faint top-2 hopes alive was University Blacks as they dismantled Old Haileybury by 62 points. Sam Bennett and Josh Steadman were outstanding for the home side, while Campbell Moorfield’s four-goal haul helped push the result beyond doubt before half-time. Ben Oakes was the only multiple goal-scorer for the Bloods with two, with the loss ending his sides’ chances for finals this season.
