OGs take-out Tigers, Blood spill at BSO

Jake Morris

Causing a major upset at Como Park today was Old Geelong as they threw a spanner in St Bedes/Mentone Tigers season following a shocking 12-point victory. Led by Callum Wood with three and a best afield performance from Tim Noakes, the OGs booted 10 of the final 13 goals of the game to speed past the Tigers and lift themselves into seventh on the table. Daniel Garside was adjudged the Tigers best who now sit 4.68% behind the Sharks for fourth with nine wins.

Lifting themselves off the bottom of the table and into striking distance of a potential Premier B return in 2020 was Fitzroy as they used a final-quarter flurry to speed past Old Haileybury by 16 points at Brunswick Street Oval. Jack Hart and Jock Green received the votes in the come-from-behind victory, while Sunny Brazier and Nathan Jumeau each kicked two crucial goals to lead the Roys. Jarrod Plymin was named the Bloods best in a disappointing afternoon that sees them fall to eighth, just 7% ahead of Fitzroy (9th).

An 11.6 to 0.0 final term from Old Scotch has seen them enjoy a 130-point victory over Parkdale Vultures at Camberwell Sports Ground. Securing their largest margin of victory on the year, the Cards’ were led by big man Thomas Downie with another four-goal haul in a BOG performance, while 14 of his teammates got in on the action en route to a percentage boosting victory. Andrew Watterson was the Vultures best, who now sit just 0.28% ahead of the eighth placed Old Haileybury.

Continuing their winning ways was Caulfield Grammarians as they breezed past Monash Blues by 53 points at Frearson Oval. Goal-scoring phenom Julian Dobosz (5) was once again the danger forward for the Fields, while William Barker and Will Edwards were outstanding in their 15th win for the year. The Blues, who were led by Liam Tenace and Nick Argento, now sit on the bottom of the table outright with four wins.

Sending a warning shot across the bow of the Sharks was University Blacks as they downed Beaumaris by 95 points at Melbourne Uni Oval. In what is likely to be the match-up in week-one of the finals, the Blacks proved a class above as they booted 20 goals to three after quarter-time, with Luke Sevior (5), John Roysmith (4) and Daniel McCollough (3) the main culprits. Matt Petering kicked three for the Sharks, who still sit in fourth with a week to go, needing just a win over Fitzroy to almost certainly book their September ticket.
