Another Wellers win, Hoers have fourth

Jake Morris

Taking care of business to keep their hopes of staving of relegation alive was Old Camberwell as they overran PEGS by 31 points at PEGS Sporting Fields. James Allen was the match-winner for the Wellers with three crucial goals in the low-scoring affair, while Simon Bennett and Josh Holding were instrumental in the win that saw them kick 6.5 to 0.0 in the final term. Marcus Luisetto kicked three for PEGS who will now finish their year with a trip to Chelsworth Park to face the Hoers.

Despite conceding 30 scoring shots to their 22, Ormond have grabbed their 12th win of the season by downing a wayward Old Mentonians by seven-points at Keysborough Playing Fields. Tom Buckley was the Monders best while Tonn Steele kicked four en route to the victory that locks in the double chance for September. Jai Florent and Josh Gorman were named the Panthers best as their season comes to a close on a sour note, as their inaccuracy in-front of goal (10.20) cost them an opportunity to play for a shot in the four next weekend.

Much like the Panthers, Old Ivanhoe were let opportunities slip in-front of goal, but it thankfully didn’t cost them as they took down Marcellin by five-points at Marcellin College to book their September tickets. Oscar McIntyre was named the Hoers best while Brandon Lee and Jack Welham kicked two apiece to help overturn a 24-point quarter time deficit into finals action. Jackson Green kicked three for the Eagles, whose bid to play finals this year also comes to an end.

Despite a hiccup early, Williamstown CYMS are now just one victory away from the perfect home & away season as they took down Mazenod by 63 points at Fearon Reserves. The CY’s trailed by 25 at quarter time but booted 21 of the next 27 goals to storm past the Nodders for win number 17. Lachlan Fairley was named best-afield with a season-high seven majors, while Russell Ackerly kicked five to help power the fightback. Mitchell D’Angelo (4) and Francis Palleschi (3) did the damage for Mazenod who, unfortunately, fall out of the race for finals with the loss.

In a low-scoring grind at Gary Smorgon Oval, Ajax made it their sixth consecutive victory as they outlasted Hampton Rovers by eight-points. Led by Richie Simon and Daniel Janover-Rocha, the Jackas overturned a scoreless opening term to steady and etch in their 10th win on the year. Josh Broadley was named the Rovers best who now sit two-points clear of ninth placed Old Camberwell, but will need to secure a win over the Panthers next weekend to ensure they stay in Premier C for 2020.
