Premier B Seniors: Caulfield Grammarians (17.22-124) def. Old Scotch (4.8-32)
What promised to be a clash featuring the two powerhouses of the Premier B competition, turned into a one-sided affair as Caulfield Grammarians etched their name back into Premiership folklore with a 92-point thumping of Old Scotch at Elsternwick Park.
Led by Captain Tim Nixon and Ian Cordner Medal Winner Lachie Stephens, Caulfield set the tone early with manic forward half pressure and an extra man in defence to put a stranglehold on their opponents scoring opportunities, limiting them to just three scoring shots at quarter-time and 12 for the afternoon.
Despite losing key defensive pillar Tate Short in the opening term to a nasty knock with Scotch’s James Sansom, the Fields’ renowned defensive back-six held strong and limited the Cards’ to their lowest score of the year (4.8-32).
In what proved to be the second largest margin of victory in Premier B Grand Final history (92 points), the Fields also kicked their second largest margin of victory in a premiership, eclipsing their 66-point victory over Parkside in 1983.
In his final game for the club, Scotch’s Jack Bull was one of his sides best in what was a disappointing day for the boys from Camberwell Sports Ground, while captain Gene van den Broek (2) also stood tall in attack with a couple of majors.
Hanging what will be their 10th flag inside the grounds of Glenhuntly Oval, Caulfield will now enter William Buck Premier for the first time since 2012, while Scotch will return to the highest section after a brief one-year hiatus in Premier B.
Premier B Reserves: Old Scotch (9.8-62) def. University Blacks (5.11-41)
Thanks to a five-goal haul from Premier B Reserves leading goal kicker, Andrew Padbury, and a best on ground performance from Josh Tilley, Old Scotch clinched the 2019 VAFA Premier B Reserves Premiership by fighting off University Blacks by 21 points at Elsternwick Park. The win is Scotch’s seventh Reserves Premiership, and first since 2005.
