Rovers dominant, Krushers overcome Jackas

A fast start by Glen Eira left Bulleen Templestowe on the back foot, as the Gryphons continued their winning start to 2021 with a 19-point victory. The final margin didn’t change from half time, with Glen Eira jumping out to the 19-point lead by the main break. For the second week in a row, Georgia Clair booted three majors for Glen Eira and Holly Watkins scored her first goal for the year. Lucy Van Amrooy slotted seamlessly into her team’s line up, named best on ground in her first game of the year. Elisabeth Jackson was again best for Bulleen Templestowe, who will be looking to not make the same mistake two weeks in a row and start well against South Melbourne Districts in Round 4.

Hampton Rovers announced themselves as the team to beat in season 2021, with an 88-point demolition of Power House, who failed to trouble the scorers. Maegen Miller contributed with 2 goals, and Bianca Lenarcic was amongst the best for her team for the second week in a row. However, the game belonged to Stephanie Peacock, who put together a six-goal performance in a clear best on ground display. For Power House, Anna Jones continued her strong start to the season, and was supported by Alana Jayde Murray and Bronagh McKenna. Power House will look to bounce back against 5^th placed Oakleigh this week, whilst Hampton will come up against the only other undefeated team in the competition, Glen Eira, as what shapes as the match of the round. 

W.A Scammell Reserve hosted a thriller on the weekend, with only one point separating AJAX and Oakleigh at three quarter time. However, it was Oakleigh who held their nerve, kicking the only goal of the last term to seal a 6 point victory. Lindi Nankin was a shining light for AJAX, booting their only two goals for the game, whilst Oakeligh registered 3 individual goal kickers (Mia Fortune, Victoria Wilson Wall and Jasmine Ballestrin). Best on ground honours belonged to Jordyn Bethune, demonstrating her consistency and importance to this Oakleigh team. It was a crucial win for Oakleigh, allowing them to slot into 5^th and keep pressure on the fourth placed Bulleen Templestowe.  For AJAX, they’ll look to get back on the winners list when they host Emmaus St Leos in Round 4.

With both teams searching for their first win of the season, it was South Melbourne Districts who registered the four points with a 13-point win over Emmaus St Leos. The Animals had their chances but failed to convert as a more accurate South Melbourne Districts were able to hit the scoreboard via Sally Eccles, Emma Madgwick and Nikola-Anne Sowry (one goal each). The ever-consistent Victoria Holt and Aisha Fairweather were among the best for Emmaus, who now face the tough assignment of AJAX at Lindsay Hassett Oval. South Melbourne will look to use their winning momentum to cause an upset against Bulleen Templestowe.
